Last Thursday at the Festival Hall we heard the Philharmonia under the up and coming Jakub Hrůša. An excellent evening - Shosty First Violin brilliantly played by Frank Peter Zimmermann and the Prokofiev Alexander Nevsky Cantata. A 5 minute walk from the hall is our customary post concert watering hole, the Kings Arms in Roupell St and I came across a tasty ale from a brewery, Clarence & Fredericks, that was new to me and from my home town Croydon. I haven't lived there for over 30 years and didn't even know it had any breweries.

This evening's ale was Charles Wells's BOMBARDIER bitter

I'd forgotten how delicious it is, especially in the open air on a sunny Sunday bank holiday eve !
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I've been off the booze for about three weeks (need to lose a few kilos for vanity reasons) and I will rejoin the club next week with an ice-cold Tubourg Export. Does that count as a beer?

You can still have a drink, Beefy, but a bit less of, when your doing this. I lost 5lbs this weeek and still had around four pints!

Four pints? Lost 5lbs? Does it involve amputation?

I walked/jogged for 1 hour forty five minutes yesterday, but I still think I need to avoid beer!

Four pints of Breakespear's Hooray Henry, and you have to do a lot of walking: trying to remember which way's home!
