Bowman's is another up side to Wickham festival KB. As you say, don't think they will be pulling pints of quiver at the RAH any time soon. !!

Discovered Zywiec while in Poland 20 years ago. Very difficult to get in the UK at one time, now sold at every Tesco. Great beer.

Samuel Smith - Old Brewery Pale Ale
Black Sheep Best Bitter ( cask )
        Hartleys Cumbrian XB

I particularly like to support the Hogs Back Brewery which is my ' local ' brewery - the Traditional English Ale is a superb session bitter, but my favourite is

.... superb, strong , darker, fruity ............. but best avoided if you're on a promise

I've made a note of the name Petrushka as this part of NW London has become a Little Poland - I'll report back if I find any

Down here fortunate to have Skinners and St Austell breweries that constantly come up with great brews. Also Helston Blue Anchor with their famous Spingo!

they don't usually put that cautionary note on the bottles(although some have a clue in the name)....perhaps missing a sales trick ?!

5%? That's a normal beer adv!! Round my poart of the woods, two breweries stand ou and they are Dark Star and Hsrveys of lewes. Not much between them, imo. Although my favourite of all has to be /skinners, based in Truro, just down the roaqd from their magnificent Cathedral. Shepherd Neame, from /Faversham in Kent are also very goodd indeed. Especially Spitfire, or Master Brew.

Ooh! I remember Harvey's IPA was a very pleasant experience: the Wheatsheaf at Willingdon, IIRC.

#22 brassbandmaestro, from the typo quotient (eight in three lines), I'd guess Skinners (dont know it) and Shepherds Neame (tried once, a long time ago) are very good indeed and far too good to resist. For me the local Exmoor Ale at the Exeter Inn just down the road is delightful, but alas, its a dangerous road and not to be walked (no pavement), and if you have to drive to the pub, where's the fun? I can drink orange juice at home for a fraction of the cost.

Answer, get the family down and someone else will drive. Just get uncle Umslopogaas to the pub, he'll buy the drinks.

the roads on Exmoor were surely designed to keep folks out!!
What a gorgeous undiscovered jewel it is .
Undiscovered, of course, except for those who have discovered it !

(very young neices and Nephews must have struggled with the name)

I wish they would stop rabbiting and get on with DSCH 7!!

Not really, teamsaint, you just have to slow down a bit. Especially on the access road that leads from Honiton to Cullompton (or Honton to Clumpton, as I'm learning to say). Its marked as an A road, but it isnt, really, there are single passage bits on blind bends and you are likely to meet the milk tanker on a blind bend ... I once did, and one of you has to back off and its not likely to be the tanker).

Actually I dont go to Exmoor much, not being a keen walker, there seems to be quite enough that needs doing in the garden to provide me with the exercise I need.

And watch out for those ponies, they look cute but they can bite.

There's a lot of good smallish breweries which have sprung up in Scotland over the past 10 or 15 years or so, from Sulwath in Castle Douglas to Valhalla in Shetland. My particular favourites are Kelburn, Harviestoun, Williams Brothers and Orkney, all of whom produce several excellent beers. My brother who lives near Edinburgh enthuses about Stewart Brewing's beers, but I've rarely seen them over this side of the country.

Unfortunately too much of Scotland is still a quality beer desert compared with most places south of the border.
