I'm trying to source in this country a supplier of the wine below; I was given a bottle by a relative in France, utterly delicious and better than anything I've had lately - no luck so far, may require stocking next time I'm south of the Channel. I had the 2010 - v good for Médoc

I'm not sure of the grape variety, Romeiko, perhaps. No label, but the maker is the man who built the villa we are currently staying in , very hospitable. It's at any colour, at times reminiscent almost of a fortified wine. Here, in the Cretan sun, gazing at the White Mountains, it tastes like Keats' "beaker full of the warm south". I won't try to take any home, but the taste will be one of my favourite memories of this year's holiday.

Interesting history from the Ch's own website:
“At the beginning,
in our classification
of Gironde wines,
we put those of Mr. Pépin d’Escurac
amongst the Medoc fifth growths.
We will keep them there,
because in our view
they deserve it,
even if this far too modest owner
wants to relegate himself
to the class of
good bourgeois growths.”
Extract from the journal "Le Producteur” – 1839
'In 1996, Château d’Escurac was awarded the 15th Crus Bourgeois Cup, ahead of some of the most illustrious growths in the category.'
Three wines are produced: Château d’Escurac, La Chapelle d’Escurac and Pepin d’Escurac, presumably in descending order of quality/price.
Robert Parker on the Grand Vin 2010: 'One of my favorite Medocs and a good value in nearly every top vintage is d’Escurac. The 2010 exhibits sweet red and black currant fruit, medium body, an elegant mouthfeel and good purity as well as texture. It should drink well for 5-6 years. 89/100' (tasted in 2013). Jancis Robinson was also keen: 'Dark ruby. Quite opulent on the nose. Sweet start – very winning and modern. Some richness and no greenness. 16/20 (tasted in 2014).' Couldn't find any published notes on the 2nd or 3rd wines, nor have come across any wines from this property in the UK. Good luck in your search, Cali!
