The Coop has a Lirac at 15%. Don't think I'ver ever come across an ordinary table wine that strong before. I bet one 125ml glass would be the recommended daily limit

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Single chopped raw celery stem with walnut pieces in equal proportions, garnished with sunflower seeds, grated Cheddar cheese, grated eating apple if you like as an optional extra, and salad cream, for a digestible supper.

Should I be worried? I have no memory of starting this thread in 2012, nor of the 'musical venue' which introduced me to the snack (think it must have been King's Place, and therefore cost £25 - plus £10 for a small glass of wine.

Following Serial's: a stick of celery, a chunk of stilton and a ripe pear - but I probably suggested that back in 2013 I'd also want two or three water biscuits to go with that. No butter.

Very nearly the same chez nous last night. Concord pears this year seem especially good.

Waitrose sell a very good NZ Sauvignon called the Doctor's which is only 9.5 degrees alcohol but dry . I understand some winemakers are using reverse osmosis to reduce alcohol levels in their wines.

It seems that climate change and the tastes of one very influential American critic( fortunately now retired ) have both played a big part in increasing alcohol levels.

All pears seem to be good this year.

Sounds like FFs snack venue reall was a King’s Place, at those prices.

And it's a piddling little self-service canteen-type place - you queue up, load your tray with the nondescript grub on show, and wait, and wait, and wait for the people in front. Appalling.

My favourite sandwich - Bavarian smoked cheese with jalapeno relish and chopped olives and chillis; seeded wholemeal bread.

Anyone tried fresh figs, sliced, with a piece of cheddar cheese? Oh, and a glass of chilled Muscadet. No bread or crackers to spoil it!

Much further downmarket for those without the readies, thin-sliced cheddar cheese atop plain digestive biscuits: yes, you'd be surprised, it really works!
