( I have often wondered what the french opinion of brown sauce would be).
Peanut butter , or PB and marmite.
I rather like cucumber sandwiches too.
“It’s funny to say but I only discovered brown sauce at age 65. Bear in mind I had been in England for over 40 years at that point! I had never really tried it nor had an interest. Then one day a friend offered me a bacon butty with brown sauce and I can tell you now, it was a revelation. I cannot believe I waited so long! After that, I wanted to know everything about it and I was so surprised to look at the label and find it doesn’t contain a single artificial ingredient. Fantastic.”
"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

These we have loved: Cheddar cheese and tomato with plenty of salt and pepper on old-fashioned English-style baguette as served by the sandwich bar round the corner from the old Guildhall School.
Pretty much any sandwich but especially the Prawn and Salad version made at the sandwich shop in Shaftesbury Avenue just off Piccadilly Circus.
Currently any sandwich made by my wife using good sourdough bread eg cheese, beetroot, lettuce, onion, cornichon and a hint of mayonnaise or salad cream, herbs of choice and a little seasoning.

Ah, sandwiches..... ham and mustard, bacon dripping with butter and garlic, chicken salad with Lucy's French Dressing.......
Hot Chip butties on foccaccia with garlic lurpak and the late movie! How the brain was sent reeling from chomping the carbs....
A poignant memory if one cannot, any longer, eat any bread. Not even gluten-free....(not that this ever tastes of anything at all....Last edited by jayne lee wilson; 20-12-21, 14:31.
