I would honestly have to take your word for that.

I might start a thread on Vocalises.

Don't follow where you're going with that but we should probably stop now

A reminder of why I resurrected this thread: Michel Roux Jr espousing the cause of 'real bread' !! http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00zf9vd

      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

        A random derailment thought.
Interesting to think that if one had some brilliant "Real Bread" one might comment "This real bread is unreal".
        Mightn't one?

Wouldn't apply just to bread though.

            no. Real Madrid, for instance.

...the other delight of shopping in Devizes (following on from the cheese thing in "Roquefort") is that they sell Lardy Cakes in the Brittox. Not quite bread. I'll admit, but close.

The first loaf I have attempted to make for about 15 years is now cooling. A sneaky warm crust with some cold beurre d'Isigny was exceptionally promising! (much better than the grey brick from the late 90s! ) Lovely golden colour, and the place smells amazing.

Done in the oven or one of those bread-maker gimcracks?

I shall miss the French bread upon returning to Blighty - it really is sensational.

Got a nice sourdough rising in front of the woodburner
started this morning but might leave it overnight
                            why rush good bread ?

(I do sometimes use a breadmaker to knead the dough as it will go non stop for 45 minutes whereas I get bored after 20 mins)

No machines - just the hands of Caliban and an oven

Bread tends to be the only thing I bring back on trips to Paris. I crave nothing more.

I love the baguettes trad. from here: http://www.boulangerie-patisserie-ar...ct-paris4.html which is near Châtelet tube and hence a hop and a skip from the Gard du N.

There's an amazing 'bio' bread shop near where Mrs. Thropplenoggin works: all kinds of fancy breads - multigrain, noix, raisin, pumpkin seeds and cranberries, orange zest and nuts...along with all the staples.
