I think that it's very generous of CFM to remind us in this way how much better (even now) R3 is. (Or, indeed, to give us a ... <ahem> ... taste of what R3 will be doing in three months' time. )
Three months? The sandwiches will be pretty stale by then, surely?

Perhaps , but that's not stopped R3 stealing CFM's stale ideas before.

Brown - To Gratiana Dancing and Singing
Butterworth - Banks of Green Willow
Bread - Make It With You

(I assume these are all on the playlist)

Like ferney I've no idea what this thread is about, but this list puts me in mind of Byrd, Though Amaryllis Dance in Green......

Apparently, Classic FM (a national broadcasting company, m'lud) has invited its readers to let them know what their favourite sandwich is, and they will, in turn, be informed which composer is best suited to that sandwich. (Don't ask me ... I'm only the messenger.)

So far there has been Roast Beef & Horseradish, Salmon & Cucumber, BLT, Chicken & Mayonnaise, Cheese & Pickle. Day after day, the same suggestions come in again and again - all of which might leave CFM listeners crying out:

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

                  Me neither.

                  12 minutes of adverts
                  60 seconds of music

Thank you for putting people in the picture FG. Must have sounded a bit strange, I admit. Was beginning to wonder whatever I'd started :( The Cfm website sometimes tries to engage it's audience by offering little online quizzes like this one about the sandwich. The sort of bread, spread and filling you choose from the drop down list links you with a famous composer, who in my case was Hildegard of Bingen. Get the idea? Anyway, apart from a similar taste in sandwiches, another thing that Hildy and I have in common is we both grow fennel, as you will see from another post on this forum. Hildegard was a renowned healer and refers to fennel in her writings on herbalism. Well I never!

Interesting - Fiona Maddocks misses that. Her chapter on Hildegard the physician and healer is full of the most alarming cures which suggest that H of B was a stranger to evidence-based medicine.

I remember back in the 1980s Clement Freud got the contract for designing the sandwiches for British Rail train buffets. He designed four - there was a corned beef and chutney one I rather liked.

Quite fun to play that link. My sandwich was a perfect mix for Bernstein. But he's dead so I binned it

I got Bernstein too. But as he's dead I ate it myself.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

                            Mozart.

Flamboyant, but still artful - a sandwich for the ages.

                            I'm not sure I agree.

I had two goes at this. The first time I got Mozart. the second, Elgar - that's the last time I order a beef sandwich. (I had been hoping for pastrami on rye, New York deli style, but that was not among the options, and would only have landed me with Bernstein, I expect).

Had 2 goes, chose egg both times but it kept asking me about cheese! Got H.of B. anyway.
