    Cheese

Spotting the Quince thread I wonder if we should have a cheese thread to go with it. I couldn't find one, so here goes.

Recently had some Roquefort bought in France, but more recently some Montagnolo bought in Snaisburgs. Very pleasant with a soft creamy texture. Recommended!

OK - I gave up on deleting THIS thread which I'd wanted to do as some errors in the initial posting, and it looks as though the wrong thread/post did get deleted, so it's easier to fix the problems (some of them) in this first post in this thread. That might make some of the later posts until things get settled down look odd, but heh, hard cheese!

Can't beat Cathedral City. Great price in Asda, too.

At Christmas, we push the boat out and get at least two little blocks of Cracker Barrel.

Other than that, Primula hits the spot. I'm quite into my cheese and I'm prepared to experiment.

Perhaps you'd do better to post on the other thread - I've requested that this one is deleted as somewhat messed up. There are technical issues with it which I can not control, contain or understand.

What about the Laughing Cow, BTW ....????

I guess La Vache qui rit is a step too far?

            Cazu Marzu?

Roquefort is a great place to visit, grubby, industrial and totally devoted to blue cheese.
Gaperon is a fine cheese IMV
as is this the smoked version of this (the unsmoked isn't bad either)

Although they sometimes change the recipe and process and it comes out too smooth, and lacking the crumbly salty edge.

cathedral city is Ok, For a workaday cheddar. The extra mature is not bad at all.

Oh, and the heartless capitalists at Tesco seem to have stopped stocking their Canadian Mature, which was from pure grass fed cattle, mand quite tasty.
I dont like cheese with holes. Terrible for sandwiches.

I do wish Tesco would stop pushing their own brand (made by Joseph Heler) of Wensleydale, with it's shocking aftertaste. Most of their stores do offer the real McCoy (from Hawes).

Wensleydale Cheese ranks with the wheel and the grand piano as one of the greatest creations of humanity.

... but very useful in stopping the baked beans from rolling off.

When I was a student at Cambridge around 1970 there was a marvellous cheese seller in the market, Mr Wesley was I think his name. He had a Double Gloucester such as I have never had anywhere else or anywhere since. He told me it came from a farm where they used the authentic recipe, and that this was the only true Double Gloucester. It had an intense rich flavour, not unlike a really good cheddar, but more interesting, the richness of flavour having perhaps something in common with a extra-mature Gouda. But without being too sharp. One of the finest cheeses I have ever tasted. Since then I have never managed to find a Double Gloucester to compare with it.

I thought from the title that this thread was going to be about photography.
