So the equivalent of pancakes - but they look more mouth-watering
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

No - not really. Kind of a soft bun thing, with a yummy almond paste kinda filling.

I meant it said on the website the origins were in 'Fat Tuesday' - or Shrove Tuesday - so using all the rich foods before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday.

Interesting - I didn't know of that. Thanks.

Unlike some other Easter or pre Easter food (such as hot cross buns, which are now available in the UK most of the year), I think in Sweden the semlor are only available for a limited time window. Unless things have changed recently.

A quick google of a Scandi site reveals Londoners can buy them from: Snaps and Rye, Notting Hill; Fabrique Bakery, Hoxton; Nordic Bakery, Central London; Scandinavian Kitchen, Great Titchfield St; Bageriet London, Covent Garden; Fika, Shoreditch.

I'm glad I can't buy them - they look so delicious, I love anything with marzipan.

As to hot cross buns - I only buy them on Good Friday as it's traditional but they are always a disappointment from supermarkets, totally lacking in spices.

I don't even think that IKEA sells them in the UK, though I could be wrong.

What's wrong with saying Sweden, or faffing around? Get somebody competent to make them or have a go yourself.

How abstemious! Agree about HXBs being not so good from most supermarkets, though some are considerably better than others.
