      Language was in it's early stages of development back then. There were perhaps differences of interpretation when the two groups came into conflict and someone said "Eat Me!"

        Too true. I've heard it argued that Neanderthals were probably less adept at expressing figurative concepts. Hence a possible source of confusion over "Eat me".
