Perhaps we should have a thread devoted to the pairing of Concert selections with cuisine in order to hide any embarrassments, in the same manner that restaurants recommend food and wine pairings.

Richard Strauss amusingly did this rather well in the last movement of his Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme Suite - the Dinner - where his various quotes suggest items on the menu.

One Prom season some years ago I tried to have a meal in a London restaurant with food that was the same nationality as the visiting orchestra playing that night at the RAH but soon gave it up on grounds of lack of time. This 2014 season could provide quite a challenge for anyone intending to give this a go.

Between the piccolo tune and the finale there are many an opportunity to disguise gastric distress.

On a slightly more tasteful note, Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance or Arne's Rule Britannia would go down with a plate of fish and chips and a pint of Smith's Chocolate Ale.
