    Such Lovely October Weather!

Now, whether it's a phone, a box brownie, or even an easel and some water colours (amongst my favourites) ... apparently there are some lovely evenings coming up, so, be alert and post what you see!

My shot from this weekend is on the Woolwich Ferry this evening (05/10/2013) on the brink of 6.30pm BST (17:28:56, if you really want to know).

I looked at the forecast and knew that I had to be out with the camera this evening. Glad I did. This is a shot which reminds me of the 70s and the Sunday supplements for The Observer and The Sunday Times. Their advertisements (usually for tobacco products, it has to be said) represented the best in commercial photography. This take goes a little way to recalling that era of excellence.

Have no camera Shb, but picture this:

A monday morning. On the road early, school-run traffic thinning out, my wife and myself not going to school as we did for 30 years, but instead heading for the seaside golf course, never tiring of living the dream that haunted many monday mornings of those 30 years. 19 degrees this morning, dull with the sun doing its best to break through, quite a breeze and the traffic light and coming towards us. Deserted golf course, maybe 6 people including ourselves, the smell of the sea and the sound of small waves breaking along the sandy beach. A heron glides over a green and four seagulls raise their heads to watch it. Out in the Lough a single white sail - probably another ex-teacher who is glad to be alive this October morning.

Here's an October picture I took a few years ago. It's of (Sir Walter) Scott's View, near Melrose, and shows the Eildon Hills - known to the Romans as Trimontium - with the River Tweed in the right foreground.

Padraig and mangerton - your posts made me feel my lungs expanding, I could almost smell the air you describe/depict in the nostrils, and the concomitant feeling of enormous well-being !
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

In the early days of camera phones, I was sitting at a pavement café waiting for a friend - it was alongside the canal in Little Venice, just off the Edgware Road, looking west, mid-afternoon (17th October, I just saw from the photo info). The light etc and the slightly hazy atmosphere happened to suit the little camera on my phone...
