How to Include Photographs in Messages?

Can someone please explain in plain English how to include images/photographs in messages?

The instructions on the Forum FAQ make no sense and help from stillhomewardbound on another thread confused me even more. Imgur left me totally baffled.

Suppose I have a photograph taken by myself which is in my computer Photo Gallery. What do I do from there?

    Please in plain English!

I've helped a couple of people out in PMs, alas I think my copy has been deleted. Ams and I think Eine Alps might be able to assist if they've kept it.

It was a slightly long-form version of this:

The easiest I know is this: http://imgur.com/

You have to register with an email address. Once done, you should see the word 'images' on the top right of the imgur page, between the word 'album' and your user name. Click on 'images' and you will be on the page where your photos will be uploaded.

Then you click the largish button towards the top right of the page saying 'Computer' with a little drawing of a computer screen .... A new window will open up... find the photo you want to post on your computer... double-click on it and it will upload automatically to imgur. You should see it as a small 'thumbnail' - postage stamp size on your images page.

Once you see the image on the your imgur 'images' page, click on it and it will enlarge from the thumbnail. You will see a series of codes, bottom left will be "BBCode (message boards)" - copy that code, paste it into the message box here on FOR3.

If you then click 'preview' message in the 'advanced' screen, you should see your image in place of the link.

Good luck, hope to see evidence of your success soon!

I'm surprised you didn't get on with imgur - maybe the above will help. Do follow up with queries, Pet, either here or in a PM

I haven't deleted it. Here it is:-

You just have to enter a username, an email address, and then choose a password, click 'accept terms of service'...

Then when you log in to the site, you will see top right of the page your username, and to the left of that, the word 'images'. Click on 'images' and you will be taken to your photo page.

Under the word images, you will see two 'buttons': 'Computer' and 'Web'. If you click on 'Computer', a window will open up and you will be able to find and select the image that's saved on your computer. Click on the image in question and a button will appear bottom right of the window saying 'Open' or 'Upload'. Click on that and the image will be uploaded to your image page.

If you then place your cursor over the image in question on your image page, and click, a rather confusing screen of options pops up. Fear not! You only need to worry about the bottom left option: there is a code starting [URL in a long box under the heading

      Linked BBCode (message boards)

If you press 'control' and then click on the code in the box under that heading, the whole code will be highlighted. Copy that and then go to your post and simply paste: the link that appears in your post: e.g.

That code with magically transform itself into the image when you click 'Preview' or when you simply click 'Post quick reply'

      VOILA!

Sounds a bit complicating (as my granny used to say) but just go by stages and it's easy really. Tell me if any of the above in incomprehensible!

Look forward to your images starting to sprout everywhere

      Happy uploading!

Imgur never worked for me (it just wouldn't upload or do anything, no idea why) but having tried it just now it worked and I did upload a pic and get the BBCode, but I use Photobucket, which is also free and works on the same principle, i.e., you register, click upload, select photo and get appropriate code and insert it in your message. Images are then stored in your Photobucket Album (I don't immediately see how one gets an Album on Imgur or how to edit re size, contrast, etc, I'll have to have another investigation)
I may be mistaken but was there not a communal Photobucket account for the Forum?

There are occasions when - perhaps because it is too busy - it just tells you your upload is "pending". One, not two, horizontal green bars appear near the top of the screen. When it's uploading there are two. When this happens just abandon and try again later.

Thanks Caliban & EA! I can see now where I was going wrong. It was at the point where EA says 'a rather confusing screen of options pops up'.

Having problems with registering. I've tried dozens of user names, some of them impossibly stupid and complete nonsense, and it just says that the name has been chosen and is unavailable.

            Giving up for now.

Sorry about that. When I signed up, it accepted the name I wanted to use but that's 3 or so years back.

It's so frustrating isn't it, when that happens. Likewise, yesterday I tried to register for 'flikr' to view some family holiday albums - you can't do so just on the site as it's part of 'yahoo' now so you have to register for yahoo and get one of their email accounts... and the same thing happened to me, no username (sensible or ludicrous) was accepted - I had to accept one of their suggestions with a line of numbers after the word. I doubt I shall remember it or ever use their site again - next time I'll have to log in with yet a further new account...

I think the internet is getting overloaded with users - so usernames have to become more and more outlandish...
