Like CANOE (Committee for Ascribing a Naval Origin to Everything) say ?

Though one thing one can always rely on is that when there is a picture of the Union Jack some pedant (or should that be a pendant ?) will complain it's upside down, back to front or reversed .........

Someone working full-time on the lowest of all living wage levels in London will clear between £1,200 - £1,400 per month (Lowest NHS Band, Starbucks, University unskilled, lowest local authority banding etc etc etc).

That's without any benefits that many, but not all, workers can get. So it's doable. Of course if you want to live better, it aint gonna happen if you remain unskilled and working in the very lowest paid job in the whole economy. But otherwise, you wouldn't expect to live better, would you?

Well, you'd probably need to speak to the Serjeant at Arms of the Palace of Westminster about how it's hung, dears. As for incorrectly calling it a 'union jack', what else would you expect? I'm only an ould Irish emigree of 41 years standing. I had been thinking I might stay Had been.

Minimum wage is £6.31 isn't it? So, for a 40 hour week x 52 that's just over £13,000pa without deductions I reckon? Which is £1083 per month. (Or maybe miniumum wage in London is more, I don't know to clear £16,000pa?)
As for the Union Flag - The UK flag is not entirely symmetrical. You can rotate the flag and it still will be the right way up but you can't invert it, it's not refective symmetry

NHS minimum rates are much higher, so too are local authority rates - London living wage (signed up to by universities, Starbucks, Pret, etc), is lagging behind at £8.55 per hour (as Boris keeps telling us!).

I've based it on 37.5 hours per week, but if people work more hours, they obviously will be paid more!

The only reason to work there is to get into the (sometimes ludicrously) well paid professions, or to start a career, since starting a career elsewhere can, in certain types of work , be close to impossible.
We really ought to aspire higher than condemning people to a subsistence lifestyle for many years, just so that they can get some work experience.

as this is off topic, I'll leave my thoughts there for now .

                  No one is being condemned.

Actually, those figures are a platform for better things. One of the reasons why so many people want to come to London and get on.

Sorry, didn't realise minimum wage in London was so much higher, apologies - well it has to be doesn't it - so all this talk about poverty in London is nonsense, everyone is on £16,000 + per year?
                    Even in Tower Hamlets?

As has already been said, property, rent and transport is expensive.

When people talk about poverty these days, they mean 'relative poverty'.

Some people define poverty as an income level that is 50% of the national average. In Britain that would mean an income of around £13,500 per annum.

It's not the sort of poverty our generation might have experienced!

The lower half will have a green background, with a red mythological creature in the middle. Obviously there'll be no blue bits.

And the flag is definitely the right way up. It't the right way round too. It's just that the photographer was in the wrong position.

Hurrah, at last Wales on the Union Flag! Well, that's worth wishing that Scotland will leave!

May I point out that the Union Jack is only known when it's rigged up on a Royal Naval ship.

I'm hoping you say ..... somewhere on there is Wales?
