    It's a boy's thing ... or is it?!

I'm curious to know how the reaction will differ between the ladies and the gents on here to this photographs. I know that quite a few of the chaps will go 'phwaorrrr!!!', but will it be the same for the gals.

Do share, ladies, and perhaps dispel that the fairer species can do planes and tranes and engines just like the boys.

Btw, for those that enjoy the stats side of things, for this picture they are:

    ISO: 100
    Focal length: 100
    Stop: f4.6
    Speed: 1/1250

    Camera: Canon 5Dii
    Lens: Canon 100-400mm USM IS

My reaction to the photo is that it's a totally hideous object, spoiling a lovely blue sky.

Does nothing for me shb, but I'd like two relatives to comment on it.

One in Adelaide, restoring an old Avro Anson for a museum of old planes.

One in Devon, who worked on the technology of planes

at an aircraft firm I've forgotten.

Personally I'd get more from a pic of a Spitfire or something similar, graceful and familiar
in the skies around here when I was a kid.

A Spitfire is a warplane. How can that be anything but ugly? The very name makes me shudder.

My father flew Ansons for a while, so I guess I tend to be interested in those.

My third cousin was Sir Frederick Handly Page. I think flying is in the family blood, because my brother's son, seems to have the bug for it. Mind you, I rather like aircraft to, wether war or civilian planes.

Since you are trying to elicit a gender response, the plane, as shot from that angle, definitely has some phallic symbolism...but why is it wearing a bra???

And a peep-hole bra at that.

Yes, "lift" is vital for an aeroplane
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Was the airline in danger of going bust?

The Spitfire was -is- indeed a thing of great beauty, and the Merlin engine makes a wonderful noise. But to me one of the most beautiful aircraft ever built was the Avro Vulcan; and what a sound THAT made!!
