    The School Play

This was taken, I am guessing, around 1960 or so just before I left primary school. For the life of me I cannot recall what play it was.....but open to suggestions. Am a bit embarrassed to say which one is little me ..... I can just about remember the names of my co-stars....where are you all now?

The bandit in the eye-patch looks like your style, Rezza!

What a lovely picture. All of life is there: the king, queen, princess, mayor, doctor, nurse, maid, policeman and burglar!

I cannot say what the other two characters are, perhaps shopkeeper and delivery boy?

But I can't identify the play.

Is it a science fiction play about a coalition government set in far away 2010?

Ah yes of course, the other two characters are David Cameron and Nick Clegg!

I don;t recognise the play either but isn't that Jimmy Edwards as the police and to his right in the flat cap, Ronnie Barker. Oh, and the guy with the tache has to be Stephen Lewis aka Blakey, surely.

This is me with the recorder at my Primary school, probably in about 1968 or thereabouts. I was the Pied Piper. (Check out the rats on the floor behind me!)

Playing a musical instrument in a silly outfit....and later in life the RAF would be paying me to do the same thing..

(There is clearly a budding music critic standing a few places to my right....)

That's a nice photo, Mr Pee. Is the music critic the one with his finger in his ear ?

wish I had a photo of me playing the turkey in a version of Lear's The Owl and the Pussycat - mother made the costume

                      and I think I was a shepherd in you-know-what

How do you play the turkey? Do you use drumsticks, or do you pluck it?

Now home, and have seen Mr Pee's recorder pic. (Not sure about the fingering technique there, Mr Pee)

Off topic for this thread, but OT for the group, this picture reminded me of going to Miss m's primary school Christmas carol concert - when the school recorder group were booked to play. The usual music teacher/pianist was sick, and a replacement had been drafted in on the day. Verse one of a carol was duly sung by the assembled throng with piano accompaniment. At verse two the recordists joined in - a tone higher. The piece had obviously been transposed for ease of playing. Pianist and most of the recorders battled on a tone apart. Miss m and some others realised what was amiss and stopped. The sound was ..... interesting.

When I was in primary (infants) I had assumed I would be picked as the Virgin Mary, stands to reason thinks I, the BVM is always blonde and beautiful - well - my best friend Madeleine was picked as The Virgin (although she was swarthy - I say swarthy but both her parents were Welsh, both mine were not and the Headmistress was) and I was relegated to the orchestra - not even a shepherd's wife! No lines to say - and to play the triangle, I ask you! I never got over it, to this day I cannot understand the casting. I would have looked lovely in blue.
Anyway, Nick Clegg says all infants should get free school dinners, how about a chance for all infants to have a go at playing the Blessed Virgin Mary?
