I am not among those who regret that University Challenge has been temporarily replaced by Autumn Watch.

But given the New England emphasis this year, I'm hoping for more of a rustling of the leaves and less rutting.

The great thing is that I am not a Guantanemo Bay style radio campaign and I can easily be turned off.

How the hell I ever got any friends - very good ones at that - is, with hindsight, a total mystery to me.

It may be a testament to my character in my 20s and 30s although not, I think, so newly possible now.
