Oh yes - founder of the SPNM (there's an award with his name to help emerging composers: worth "on average £100") and composer of the second Dalek story in 1964.

I don't know his Second Symphony , but I do know that his son, Julian, was the "secret lemonade drinker" in the R Whites advert - and therefore worked with Elvis Costello. (Which knowledge I suppose some people would think merits another )

Worth amalgamating the latest posts with the pre-existing thread about musician photos I think!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Does anyone have a photo of the mighty shofar, used in Mark Elder's superb performance/recording of Elgar's The Apostles?

I haven't been able to find a photo of the specific Shofar used in the Elder recording Alpie mentions - which is surprising, considering the attention given to it in reviews of the CD - but there is one of the composer Alvin Curran playing the instrument:

(In the only performance of The Apostles I've ever taken part in, the Shofar was played by Crispian Steele-Perkins.)
