              That was one of my thoughts, but it turns out Poulenc didn't attend the 1958 festival when Les mamelles was performed. I'm still wondering if it's Paul Sacher.

                  I've just been listening to the Dutton CD that includes Kelly's beautiful Elegy 'In Memoriam Rupert Brooke' which prompted me to post the pic.
                  Kelly was an Olympic gold medal winner too

                        It looks a bit like Elgar and a(nother) bit like Tippett... Former's nose, latter's eyes. Can't tell if there's a 'tache or not. The age and style of the photo suggests it's more likely to be Sir Edward.

                          Yes indeed. Taken on the Avon near Stratford in 1928. But ER's Arthur Bliss had me doubting myself for a moment (except that I know the photo well).

                            I've long had this theory that Bliss's music was influenced by Elgar's moustache.
