Sibelius diary entry on 24th November 1924: ‘Alcohol is the only friend that never lets one down.’

Therefore his tipple of choice probably wasn't Broken Orange Pekoe.

The Mahler photograph is the only one I've seen before (I have a book called The Mahler Album by Gilbert Kaplan which includes every known photograph of him) so I also know who the others in this photograph are.

Brilliant pictures though. There must be many more hidden away in archives and private collections and they'd make a good book. Not sure I'm up to seeing Stravinsky starkers though!

Wonder which photograph can give us the greatest number of composers together? Two together isn't unusual but can anyone manage three or even four?

there's a photo near the bottom of this link which I don't know how to upload. The blogger says it is August 1922 and shows Webern, Hindemith and Wellesz ....... and to me that looks suspiciously like Dame Ethel in the middle (but is that likely ? )

According to http://www.exploringsurreyspast.org....h-timeline.pdf, Dame Ethel had a song cycle performed at the 1922 Salzburg Festival.

It is she. Hindemith is to her right and it looks as if Arthur Bliss is behind him (over his right shoulder).

Ah! It would have to be Rout, of course (no other Bliss was known).

Yes, but notice how EE and Stanford are at the farthest extremities. They really didn't get on at the time.
