Anyone in the UK seen the Northern Lights lately?

The Aurora Borealis, better known as the Northern Lights, gives spectacular displays over parts of the UK, lighting up skies from the north of Scotland to Jersey.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

They sound like Yorkshire cigarettes, you mean?

That nice lady on R4 news this morning said they had been well visible in most of the UK over the past few nights.

          Has it stopped raining then?

I missed it, unfortunately, which is one of the drawbacks of living where I do - I can't see much of the sky, and none of it to the north. Then there are the streetlights.

However, these pictures were taken locally.

Mrs A and I saw them in Cornwall once. We phoned the local TV weatherman next day ('cos we couldn't believe out eyes) and he confirmed they had been seen. He also said the furthest south they'd ever been seem was the north coast of Spain.

              Missed them last night, alas.

Some stunning pictures from Caithness and Orkney on the TV this morning... and northern England also got a good look, with visibility in the south too, in areas with little light pollution.

Was that in Cuckers? Nothing seen yet here to the East.

Me and my daughter arrived home from Alyth about 8 on Thursday evening and as we were pulling up at the house she said it looked like there was some aurora. What a treat of bright green searchlights in the North and pulsing reds and purples above us - that thing where you have to look kind of sideways to see it - one of the best displays I've seen in the years since we came here. It was all set against a beautiful clear starry sky, and not too cold - cloud came over and killed the spectacle.
