A friend with the surname Lane married someone whose surname is Wright, but they wisely decided not to opt for the double-barrelled route, which is hardly surprising since my friend's mother's maiden name is Driver...

            Three classics!!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I've never been able to work out whether it's some sort of postmodern ironic marketing ploy (unlikely, as they've been around for as long as anyone can remember), but in Newport, Gwent is based a locally well-known estate agent called:

                "Crook and Blight"

                You couldn't make it up.

late entry again: In East Sussex there's a firm of {I think) Solicitors called Swindells & Gentry, and I once knew of an orthpaedic surgeon called Mr. Bendall.

Readin an article in the Guardian on coping with the recent storms & flooding, I discovered that the National Trust's coast & marine adviser is -

When I did Jury service we had a forensic expert called Dr Dabbs.

Our library teacher at junior school was Miss Silence (honestly).

Edit: Not that libraries are quiet anymore. You been in one lately? Play-pens, computers and people talking on their mobile phones

Alas his formal title as a High Court judge would have been Mr (or Lord etc etc) Justice Judge. His name's always tickled me though!

Odd coincidence, it was only yesterday that I learned his first name is Igor
