However there is still a significant price difference between 99p for the Kronos version and the higher prices. If I decide I really want "better" or different versions I'll pay more then.

In the meantime I'm struggling with Am.uk since I've been forced to change my credit card as it's not now taking Visa (or about to change ...), but it's a pain as it isn't consistent across different parts of Amazon's empire.
For example a Kindle download which was a book of the day a few days back "bounced" - didn't pick up the new card details I put in - and I was then sent a message suggesting I could still buy it. Yes! But at an inflated price.

It's going to take a while to sort out the different payment methods for each Amazon section. I could have posted this on the Grumble thread - but I'll leave it for now.

Richer Sounds have a cracking bargain for VIP members, the Denon DM41 for £199, ideal second system I’d say.

Shop for Denon RCD-M41DAB (Silver) Silver Mini System with Richer Sounds for expert advice and lowest prices guaranteed
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Yes, we bought a previous model for my mother and mother in law and they're very pleased with them.

We too have a similar earlier model (RCD M38DAB) as our second system, and are very happy with it.
Also VIP members (why not, as it's free) so we get extended warranties and other reductions.

Do you have to go into the store to order? My nearest Richer Sounds store is nearly 200 miles away!

Otherwise these units may make quite nice presents - for example for playing in the kitchen. Do they only work with wireless speakers, or can "old fashioned" wires work? I have several fairly decent speakers which could work if wires are possible.

Dave: If you click on the link you'll see a few shots you can click on, one of which shows the back of the unit, with speaker sockets.

I'm pretty sure they'd deliver to you.
Tell them there'll be a complaint lodged at the York store (Julian Richer lives nearby and I think pops in fairly regularly) if they don't.

PS: Not too sure, now I've really looked at the link.
It's described as an in-store deal, for click and collect, by the sound of it.

Worth a call though, to see if you could arrange delivery.

Thanks. I might give this a shot. I had an order delivered from Reigate last year, so maybe give that store a call.

Is the general view that this really is a good unit to have? It just about fits one possible present slot - though another idea is some form of cheapish streamer - or even a more expensive one.

If it's only click and collect, then I suppose I could take a day trip to Edinburgh or Glasgow - but it really would be a very tedious day out.

I suspect they might stretch a point for those living a long way from a store. Even at these prices, probably worth doing the money back 6 year warranty. Just pop the date 6 years hence in your outlook calendar. Or pop a note in non fading biro on your pin board….

                      Good luck !!

Update from the York store, which I popped into this afternoon.

The £199 VIP price applies only to the silver model.
As of about 14:30, there were 173 units left for sale (though none in the York shop/warehouse).
Anyone can join the VIP club to benefit from the lower price: all Richer Sounds need is an email address.
And yes, they can arrange to send it (an extra charge will apply) if you can't easily do the click and collect option.

So the specific advice to Dave was to call his nearest Scottish shop, and they would make the necessary arrangements.
(Dave (or anyone else): PM me if you want any further info. I am NOT an employee, and am NOT on commission!)

No, which is a slight irritation. It was removed on the latest model.

I’ve used units like this in past in the kitchen, but just found it easier to use a decent Bluetooth speaker, currently the Sony SRS-XB33. It sounds surprisingly decent and is about the size of a brick. Battery charge is long, about 20 hours. It cost about $85 at one of those on line sites that sells off excess inventory. I now bring it on trips
