In Nottingham Fopp today, I picked up the two BFI sets of Alan Clarke films at £30.00 each. Bargain! :)

Not sure if this is good or not - MyMemory have 2 x 128 Gbyte memory sticks for £20, or £10.99 for one.
However, they may be generic - so no indication of quality.
Otherwise the cheapest memory sticks in this size elsewhere seem to be about £14 each, with recognised brands around £20 per unit.

I have a wide range of memory sticks, and some are slow, but most are good. I did have one fail completely - but it wasn't a well known brand.

Not the most robust or fastest but certaimly serviceable (in both senses. I had to prise one open and resolder the main connection to the plug end when stress bacame strain when it was flexed while inserted into my laptop).

Doesn't sound so great, then. Maybe I'll give that a miss!

Treated with due care, which the one I had to repair wasn't, they are fine. Faster than 2.0 but not in the first league of 3.0 drives. Were I not over-provided with USB thumb-drives, I would order a couple.

My Memory have 16% off everything today. I have had several of the Integral SSDs - 240 Gbyte, which seem quite good. Currently should be about £21.80 with the discount today, and they go quite well in some of the cheap plastic enclosures from amazon.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07LCGNH...d_i=B07LCGNH7F - also available at slightly different prices in other colours.

Not as fast, but much smaller and somewhat cheaper is 'their own' 256GB USB 3.0 memory stick: https://www.mymemory.co.uk/mymemory-...drive-red.html (£19.31 with the MM16 discount code).

Not that much cheaper, and the speed is useful often enough. Depends what you want these for.

Re. this 256GB supposedly USB 3.0 memory stick, its performance is very much towards the USB 2.0 end of the spectrum. Over 15 minutes to copy a 7GB directory from my laptop's SSD C: drive to it via a USB 3 port.

A digital subscription to Wired is currently available for 5 US dollars {$5 US). Might be worth it for some. That’s not much on a daily basis, and there are some interesting articles. This is part of the so-called July 4th sale. See wired.com.

I have never seen even a single episode of Game of Thrones and had not really felt a need to change that situation until, quite by chance, I followed up on an Amazon recommendation regarding season 3 for less than a tenner. I was not tempted but, out of curiosity, went in search of the complete collection. It appears that the full seasons 1 to 8 inclusive will not be released until the end of the year. However, my eye fell upon an offer from Music Magpie, in the marketplace, for a boxed set of Blu-rays of seasons 1 to 7, "Used: Very Good". It was the price which grabbed me, £15.74 (including p&p). My guess is that it was a pricing error, but nothing ventured . . .

I now await the pretty inevitable cancellation email.

Today they have “their own” portable hard drives. Two (2) for £49.99 for 500 Gbyte. Not sure that it’s worth it - I have loads of hard drives anyway, and HDs are more vulnerable to drops, knocks etc. compared with SSDs. There’s 10% off SSDs again.

Well with a Toshiba 4TB 2.5" USB 3.0 drive available for under £90, those own brand My Memory drives look totally uncompetitive.

Well, I have now had an email notification of dispatch. Let's see what actually arrives.

Depends if you wanted a smallish drive or not. Not everyone wants a huge drive. For smallish storage the Integral SSDs still look around the best deal, but only around 250 Gbytes. Remember, some people only have around 100 Gbytes of storage actually used on their computers - I have seen this time and time again. It's only "nuts" like me who go for multiple Terabytes.

I tend to agree though. that Own Brand 500 Gbyte drives don't look a great deal.
