I've just been told of the death of Edward Williams .......
Edward was best known for the music he wrote for Life on Earth but subsequently went on to inspire the development of the Soundbeam interface used by many as an access tool for playing and composing music.
He was a wonderful warm, generous and inspiring man who I had the great pleasure of working with on many occasions and will be greatly missed by many...

Following a rich and varied career as a composer for film and television, Edward's involvement with Soundbeam (a device he originally conceived primarily as a tool for contemporary dance) became a key part of his life from the early 1990's onwards. His interest in the democratisation of opportunity for musical expression and performance afforded by Soundbeam, along with his eagerness to explore new forms of electronic music technology, provided Edward with an energetic focus for his later years along with his wife Judy who still has an active role.
A fundamentally generous man, a lifelong socialist and a highly principled thinker and artist, Edward Williams will be deeply missed by his family, his colleagues, and the many teachers and other professionals in the world of special needs who had the pleasure to meet him during his 25 years with Soundbeam.
