    Come along quietly please, Maestro

On the AA thread we were discussing the incident in 1944 when Stravinsky was supposedly arrested prior to conducting his arrangement of "The Star-Spangled Banner" because of a Massachusetts state law banning the performance of the national anthem in any "embellished form."

Which composer or musician would you like to see banged up, and on what trumped-up charge?

On the same charge, and with the same work, Beyonce, for her apparent inability to sing it in 3-4 time

She was unrepentant before the judge about her lip synching:
"It was about the president and the inauguration, and I wanted to make him and my country proud, so I decided to sing along with my pre-recorded track, which is very common in the music industry. And I'm very proud of my performance.
      Verdict: - Guilty
Sentence - 3 years in a tent in Antarctica where we won't hear her and she will have to cover up completely so we don't need to see her awful hair, outfits and excessive bling.

Just think of all the ice cream! - a case of ethical investment, Comic Relief (if you're listening), given the minimal energy requirements to keep it cold.

Hah! I've just been looking at R3's Facebook page where someone has just asked why no André Rieu on R3, despite the fact that he has opened up the world of classical music to so many? Have pointed out that he hasn't opened it up to many of us.

André Rieu: Go to Antarctica >>> Move directly to Antarctica >>>> Do not pass Go >>>> Empty your pockets of that $200m ....
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Are you thinking, 'The André Rieu Season', Radio 3 clears the schedules for six weeks of round-the-clock favourites from the King of the Viennese schmaltz?

Bet they're planning the playlists as we speak.

I was trying to think of a Mikado-ish punishment for him, along these lines -

The music-hall singer attends a series
Of masses and fugues and ‘ops’
                              By Bach, interwoven
                              With Spohr and Beethoven,
                              At classical Monday Pops.
only not nearly harsh enough. More like the billiard sharp. Being tied up and forced to watch while his favourite fiddles are crushed underfoot?
