It has but recently been announced via r3ok.com that the poet Simon Howard, who used to post under the board name Julien Sorel on the old BBC Radio 3 forums, has left this world. This has come as quite devastating news to those who interacted with him over the years. R.I.P Simon.

Devastating news indeed. I always found Julian Sorel's contributions to be interesting and well-informed.

Simon Howard
Just heard the news of an R3OK board member that Simon Howard has passed away. although his views were strong and quite vehement, he was always very good in expressing what he had to say, wether you agreed with him or not.Don’t cry for me

I'd communicated with Simon for years and was very saddened to learn the news this afternoon. Simon used to come and go under various identities - the very first on the BBC boards was 'JS' - but he also posted here as 'arcades' and 'arcades project'. A very meticulous, well-read and (I'd say) scholarly man - though he might have objected to that description. Very sad that he won't be reappearing under one name of another to argue his points. It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I also appreciated his input under his various names, esp the memorable 'Julien Sorel' (being a bit of a fan of Le Rouge et le Noir) and am sad to learn this news. I didn't know about his real identity.

He'd been in hospital with a serious kidney infection, his earlier posts explain.

Most sad news indeed. I, too, heard it in another place and have accordingly expressed the same sentiments there. Oddly enough, I know him only by the nsam Simon Howard and, whilst I had read posts under the name Julien Sorel, I did not realise until now that they were one and the same.
RIP.
