When (if ever) should one start to decorate one's house for Christmas?

I think the title says it!

Might say 'When you get your first Christmas card' - I've just had mine

[Oooh, should add - I don't decorate my house at all. Most years I can't even find anywhere to display the cards, so they're left in a pile and then put in a box until next year, to remind me who to send to.]
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

... for them as likes Rules and Rituals - well, choose whichever Rule or Ritual suits you

Like French Frank - we don't particularly decorate the house. And Christmas cards are an irritating bore.

But when the time comes, my do we eat and entertain. Drink also plays a part...

I imagine the Vinteuil homestead is decorated with champagne corks. I pity the poor sod who has to deal with your 'bottle' recycling bin. Given the self-(over)indulgence, it's a wonder you find the time to reply to PMs...Oh, I forgot, you don't.

Only have a tree generally - no other decorations but the arrival of children leads to all manner of things appearing - yesterday I had to get firm at a suggestion we should have a plastic reindeer covered in glitter !

Well it would say it, but on New Posts the title stops tantalisingly at "one's"...

When I was a child it was always Christmas Eve; when I left home & returned for Christmas one year I felt quite agrieved that it had been done the day before!

We will have my partner's children staying & we've been told that we have to have a tree (Mr Flossie sticks to the old Scottish traditions & would happily ignore Christmas). As they are arriving the weekend before Christmas the tree & cards will probably go up then.

I feel sorry for people who live near people who have those gross-out external decorations. A friend of mine did, only this year it isn't happening. Not only did he get the illuminations opposite, his street was full of cars of people come to view the spectacle, which was for charity [sic].

                  Just incoming cards here.

just after the sprouts go on.

That is pretty much everybody these days.

Christmas, though fun if done carefully, is an environmental catastrophe.

Not much fun then, ts, because it's a disaster even if you're ever so careful.
No sir; I like a little abandon with my fun; especially at Christmas.

                              When we first hear Slade!

Actually I now try to coincide with the lights 'Switch-n' in the village 14/12 this year.
