https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dic...glish/epiphany the page is greyed out for Privacy purpose but still possible to see that the new definition has taken priority over the original.

I used one capital - and that in error. Do you mean ardcarp?

Guilty. Somehow an Advent of goldfinches doesn't have quite the same ring to it. On the other hand.......

... but 'the original' is pretty complicated -

Yes, apologies - is it as damp in the Far East today as it is here?

                  Here's the Cambridge quote......,

"a moment when you suddenly feel that you understand, or suddenly become conscious of, something that is very important to you"

                  and the page:

Long ago in a Galaxy far away, in seminars I would write the word in the middle of the (black or white) board, then draw lines out to bubbles all around it.... the board was soon crowded with various associative meanings...then we might go back to the root.....

                  So it's all Poetry, really....

Try the exercise I described sometimes, it can be great fun.....kinda Psychoanalytic free association...you may learn things about yourself you didn't know were there....

We are The Creatures of Language.... created, defined and limited by the vocabularies we carry.....it can take a shocking epiphany to shock us out of those limitations..... look at the buzzwords of Brexit..... try putting "sovereignty" in the middle of the page...

Sorry, OT.... lets get Back to Nature!

I threw out some apple slices for the birds, along with pieces of brown bread and bacon fat. Bread and fat demolished. Apple still alone and palely untouched. A blackbird turned his back as I watched. What bird eats apple - none of ours.?

Fieldfares (if its cold enough for them to visit) Blackbirds and Magpies and Jackdaws all love it here... but then they have a large supply of windfall apples in the orchard... usually gone by Christmas...

Chez vous they may have learnt a preference through availability....?

OK. I'll leave it out until they learn a new preference!

Damp yes but only one fairly brief precipitation episode - I think the relevant cloud belt just missed here. Feeling raw cold though.
