Robins have been making their seasonal presence felt around here, singing their hearts out. Just around the corner the first daffodils of 2025 are in flower, the earliest I have seen anywhere, and way ahead of the snowdrops and crocuses. On Saturday the topmost terrace in Crystal Palace Park was studded with daisies.

Irish ornithologist Seán Ronayn has been on a mission over the past years to record the birdsong of all Irish birds. This very interesting programme followed him across various parts of Ireland looking for the common and rare birds of the country and trying to record them while their species still exist - beautiful, yet sad.

Film following Irish ornithologist Seán Ronayne’s mission to record the sound of every bird species in Ireland – that's nearly 200 birds.

.... my merlin machine said I was hearing a redwing, a curlew, and a northern pintail last week (Dromore, County Down) : I have my doubts.

But it did record various chaffinch, blackcap, goldcrest, goldfinch, and song thrush - and I'm happy to take them...
