    Lou Reed - 1942-2013

It's been announced that Lou Reed has died, aged 71.
Too much to take in at the moment.

Oh, but I am, I was. Berlin is my favourite album, I play it a lot. Meanwhile, here's something we all remember him by: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAfP5BMKgjc

That track (playing it now) immediately brings back juke boxes in Scandinavian-restyled saloon bars on those hot mid-seventies summer evenings.

Yes, must have been hard (not that I know her) but, he was genius at times
Watch Lou Reed perform Caroline Says Pt. II from the album, "Berlin: Live at St. Ann's Warehouse", out on Matador Records https://store.matadorrecords.com/be...

Lead singer and moving spirit (I guess you could say) of The Velvet Underground, a psychedelic coke-(as opposed to dope)-fuelled NY rock band established in 1964 or 5, strongly associated (initially) with a famous artist said to have initiated the cult of celebrity by saying anyone can be famous for 15 minutes - not that Lou Reed was in any way to be blamed. .

Alas! That news got me running to my shelves. Who was (is) Lou Reed? Answer: the lead guitarist, piano player and vocalist in 'The Velvet Underground', for example, hear their album 'White Heat, White Light'. What a band! Lou Reed, John Cale, Sterling Morrison and Maureen Tucker. Maureen Tucker, a FEMALE drum basher? Oh yes! Bring back 1970. On second thoughts, dont bother, I would have been too stoned to remember it. But I've got the LP.

Not many bands have been more influential on what came after them than the Velvets with Reed and Cale. The great thing, sometimes, about Reed was he never tried to stay the same. 'I'm Waiting for my man' remains one of the great guitar riffs.

I think you might mean Reed and someone who sounds a bit brassica.
