Poor old Fred D's turning up often on this thread...
Delius nearly made it onto my top 8 and on another day would have been there instead of Walton (got to have some British, innit?). Really don't understand the dislike for his music.I can understand that some may be indifferent to it, but to actively dislike it I find very hard to figure. Music like "Summer Night on the River" is such a gloriously subtle evocation of nature.

And having put Delius on my list you have just reminded me of the "Florida Suite", which I absolutely adore.
A quick edit might be in order.....
Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.
The Classic FM School (Einaudi, Jenkins, Rutter et al) - do they count as composers?
I asked a similar question when I included Rutter in my list. If they count, I'd include the ones you've named as well, except they would take up too much of the list.

I'd forgotten to include Rutter but, whilst thanking you for the reminder, 9 breaks the rules, so I'll have to leave it as is!
Actually, no - take out Stravinsky and substitute him with Rutter!
Sorry about Bruckner, I've tried and tried but it all seems so pointless - meandering on and on.
Interesting that nobody has chosen Mahler, so far.......
