8 composers you can live without

suffolkcoastal: Perhaps we should have 8 composers you can totally live without, but that will probably cause too many arguments.
    I take the risk

    Byrd
    JSBach
    Vivaldi
    Handel
    Mozart
    J Strauss
    Franck
    ten Holt

all composers I do appreciate, but not enough I'm afraid

    Vivaldi
    Telemann
    Britten
    Delius
    Verdi
    Puccini
    Donizetti
    Rossini

As you can see I'm not much of a one for opera of the Italian variety and I could perfectly well live without any of these. Mind, Britten the composer of anything but the operas would make him a more difficult one to ignore. Ditto the Verdi Requiem which I adore.

It's not always dislike though - could be indifference.

Now what we want is an "8 composers you really can't stand" thread.
I expect someone will start that up. There are in fact few that I can't stand,
though for a long while Delius might have topped that list. I could have trouble finding 8 for such a list.

This is easier than the 8 we couldn't live without.

                    Delius
                    Maxwell Davies
                    Puccini
                    Donizetti
                    Rutter (Does he count?)
                    Brahms
Wagner (Apologies, but I have tried!)
                    Glass

Also about 90% of Elgar and RVW.

Lord Lloyd Loom (a name for a readily identifiable person given to me by a composer colleague)
Hans-Joachim Hespos (I know that this might upset one member here, but it's not for want of trying on my part)
                        Louis Andriessen

...er...that's only 7; as I often think happens when a work by one composer on this list ends, "sorry - ran out of a lack of ideas"...

I do not seek to criticise the principle of this thread but it might be somewhat nail-biting waiting to see how soon it might be before one's own name ends up on it...

Ah, wait abit - Karl Jenkins, yes, that's who!
