Very sexist. Had you not considered Rebecca? Don't women count? If you were the father of a female musician, you'd be outraged!

Fair comments all - but it could have been James of that ilk anyway!...

Dvorak appears to have three votes for on this thread and none against on the other one. Just about everyone else appears in both threads....What does this say about Dvorak? I should have included him in my 8, for the cello concerto, but who to leave off?

'Twas he, indeed. (The superb Rebecca Clarke sadly had to be excluded from a list of living composers on a technicality; Michael's Music I don't know )

Dvorak - that's a hard one - difficult to decide between him and Chopin.

                          Mahler
                          Schubert
                          Sibelius
                          Schubert
                          Beethoven
                          Dvorak
                          Liszt
                          Tchaikovsky

If only three then Beethoven, Schubert and Mahler.

Just catching up with the posts after a day with family.

According to the BBCMM Dame Ethel Smyth is Composer of the Week from 4th November.

Were any women composers chosen? Not even Hilda Tablet ?

I mentioned Rebecca Saunders: and she was in the first 8 of my "unlivable-without Living composers" list, too
