Or, " I don't know", as some people put it.

They reused that concept in "Earn enough for us", in time honoured tradition. If its good enough for JSB.....
No, no. It was definitely just one of them, in an early television interview with Janet Street-Porter. She asked about the pauses in the song, and got the reply, "I like the holes". I just can't remember whether it was Andy or Colin who came up with that response. I went to Virgin in Oxford Street to buy the White Music LP and 3D EP the very next day.

      Possibly:

      Machaut
      Bach
      Mozart
      Beethoven
      Schubert
      Debussy
      Sibelius
      Stravinsky
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

don't recall !! sounds more like Andy P, at a guess.

Funny really. If we are allowed 8, would definitely pick them ahead of Mozart.
But not if we could only have one.

Holes in my thinking, i'm sure.

Assuming Bach and Beethoven are given to everyone .....

                      First and forever there is

Haydn ...... then , in no particular order

                      Nielsen
                      Brahms
                      Chausson
                      Feldman
                      Bartok
                      Szymanowski
                      Vaughan Williams

with Holmboe , Stanford , Rubbra , Faure , Victoria etc etc etc bubbling under.

This is fiendishly difficult. My gut instinct:

                          Bach
                          Beethoven
                          Mozart
                          Haydn
                          R. Strauss
                          Brahms
                          Purcell
                          Shostakovich

It's like Shakespeare and a Bible, goes without saying, no explanation required.
