I've 7.5, Saly, will that do?

    I jest.

    1. Bach
    2. Beethoven
    3. Bruckner
    4. Brahms
    5. Debussy
    6. Mozart
    7. Schubert
    8. Wagner

With Tallis and Palestrina on the subs bench.
It loved to happen. -- Marcus Aurelius

      Bach
      Beethoven
      Wagner
      Bruckner
      Tchaikovsky
      Mahler
      Ravel
      Debussy

      If 9, Mozart too
If 10, Mozart & Britten too

Why 8 and not 10? We're not on a desert island!

Well, some of us have got only 8 fingers to count on ... plus two thumbs if pushed.

Well judging by the apparent lack of interest in the actual Radio 3 content on these message boards at the moment, we might just as well be ...

1 Composers of the Eton Choirbook (hopefully they can count as one, as none of them left us very much.)
              2 Byrd
              3 Tallis
              4 Lassus
              5 Victoria
              6 Bach
              7 Haydn (properly pronounced)
              8 Shostakovich

DID allows every castaway the Bible and Shakespeare, so I am assuming everyone is allowed Bach and Beethoven.

And so, in no particular order: Palestrina, Haydn, Mozart, Shostakovitch, Ravel, Poulenc, Messiaen, Britten

......... but I grieve for some of the omissions.

It is a Forum "for Radio 3 listeners" though... as opposed to a Forum "about Radio 3"...

                  My 8 () are:

                  Bach
                  Ravel
                  Fauré
                  Rachmaninov
                  Tallis
                  Vaughan Williams
                  Elgar
                  Mahler
                  Shostakovich

                  OK it's a 'Baker's Eight'... ! Sue me, saly

PS Finzi and Howells are on the subs' bench... with a no doubt slightly bemused Handel and a very amused Poulenc
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                  Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
