Had the DE safety razor that you recommended a while now MrPee and I can report that it's giving the best, closest, burn-free shaves I've ever had! Good steer

Today I'm going to move on to those Japanese Feather blades that you couldn't get on with. Will report back (unless I slice an ear or a nose off!)

Has Radio 3 ever had a shaving correspondent, I wonder?

Good to see members Pee and Oven playing together nicely though

Glad you're getting on with the safety razor, Beefy! And I concur with your comments on the quality of shave.

I'll be interested to hear how you get on with the Feathers- I may give them another try, but I still have nearly two years worth of excellent Gillette 7 O'Clock blades to use up- that cost me the princely sum of 12 quid!

Trumper's shaving cream and one of their badger hair brushes, followed by their coral skin food. Available in all sizes. Never looked back.

Never tried the Trumper stuff. I currently use Proraso shave cream, which I find excellent, although I have a tube of Musgo Real waiting to be given a try.

Haven't tried the Gillette 7s, but everyone reckons 'em. I find Derby's are fine.

Before I go long on any particular blade, I'm going to try as many different ones as possible. My barber gave me an 'Astor' blade to try. Apparantly only available in Greece! It was pretty good, similar to a Derby.

Sainsbury's had a half-price sale on Truefitt & Hill products, so I'm long on their soaps, balms, moisturisers etc.

Trumper's is a new one on me.

I use to use this one years ago, and can recommend it highly - Arko. Discovered it in Istanbul in the '90s, but it's available in London at around 80p a bar and it lasts about 6 months!!!

                      Closest shave EVER!

                      Not even the smallest nick!

I'd say you try them again. Just let the weight of razor do the work, and only apply the smallest of pressure.

And I do suggest you give these Proraso products a try- I love'em!

The Proraso post-shave cream give you a really good wake-up "zing" in the morning!
                          Hi Pee

Just to update you, I have ordered Proraso pre & post shave cream and Proraso shaving soap.

Will let you know how I get on.

You're not alone in reckoning this stuff from 'the old country', so I'm keen to find out what the fuss is about!

Even closer shave than the Edwin Jagger, which I didn't think would be possible - unbelievable! Used it with a Japanese feather blade (sharpest in the world?).

This razor has a fierce reputation that is undeserved. I didn't even get the slightest of nicks.

I was wondering if the shaving enthusiasts had given up! I can recommend Sainsbury's Basics shaving foam, typically around 29p a can. Makes a big difference compared with some gels or soap - http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/grocerie...=1392487019195 and can push the replacement period for some blades up an extra week or two.

Sorry if I've knocked the discussion of 'luxury' shaving off course.

                                No Dave, you haven't!

It's not about 'luxury shaving', whatever that is - the soap I used today is the famous Turkish one, Arko, costing 80p a bar that lasts about three months!!!!

And most people will soon overtake the £39 I spent on a razor with the ridiculous rip-off prices of disposable razors!!
