You can pay ridiculous amounts for Badger hair brushes. There are three different grades, the most expensive being Silvertip. I use a Boar Hair brush, which is the most popular type of brush used in Italy; it only cost 20.00, and it works extremely well. I can't see that a badger hair brush would represent a significant improvement, although I haven't tried one.

By the way, up to now, the fibres for Badger Hair brushes have always come from Asia. That may be about to change....

We've had shaving related threads before.

Personally I'm amazed that anyone promotes safety razors nowadays, though I knew someone who was fairly recently keen on them.
There is a history of razors here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safety_razor

I'm not sure that having more blades, or having vibrations in the newer models of razor, makes much difference, though when the battery ran down in one of my razors recently I did notice, and have now replaced the battery.

Does anyone still advocate cut throat razors (for shaving purposes)?

I'm now getting massively better shaves with my safety razor than I ever did with those stupidly expensive cartridge blades. They are having quite a resurgence as people- like me- get fed up with the ridiculous cost of Fusion cartridges and their ilk.

And you can still buy cut-throat razors from the same company where I get my shaving supplies, as well as most other shaving suppliers. I won't be trying one though...

Shaving soap is important. Of the popular brands, Erasmic is very good, whereas Palmolive is probably ordinary soap in stick form, and quite ineffective in softening the beard. Spray-on foams are a con. It's the brushing and warm water that help the soap soften the beard that is needed. Gels aren't much cop. Some of the up-market shaving soaps are good, including Kent, Crabtree & Evelyn, and L'Occitaine. And a really good brush is a wise investment.

A good shave cream is the thing for the actual shave, not soap!!

I use Proraso shave cream, and Musgo Real Portugese shave soap as a a pre-shave wash and bristle softener. I have a tube of Musgo Real shave cream standing by, which I will try next. It has had very good reviews!!

Spray foams are complete waste of time. You might as well use washing-up liquid!!

You read reviews of shaving creams Mr Pee?

I honestly never know there were such things.

I use washing up liquid. Peppermint and pineapple flavour.
