Yes Flossie, I remembered as soon as I shut this down. I like blue and green but Esther's get-up is 'the end' as we used to say.

Things like "Never wear brown in town" and "Guards officers must never carry parcels"

Wasn't there once a rule that parcels could not be carried in the Burlington Arcade?

I've just remembered - I had a friend who was very particular about his socks - they always had to match his tie. I thought that was a nice touch.
As to shoes, I do like a polished pair of brown brogues! (on a man, not me)

I believe that whistling there is still forbidden

Actually of the 'rules', the 'brown in town' thing does seem pretty silly (I'm not sure I'd want to wear brown anywhere - I possess no brown garments, I think it's true to say... apart from a pair of shoes (brown brogues, in fact Anna ) to go with navy blue trousers...)

but the daftest of all is the interdict on blue with green. I think they can look great together - cf: a sunlit verdant hillside against blue sky... magic!

I own a very nice apple green tie with sky blue in the spotted design, it's very pleasing I think (if alarmingly vulnerable to coffee stains )
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

May I throw in a springtime wood full of blue and green bluebells? - one of the most delightful sights in nature, I think. You posted a splendid (that word again) photo of such a woodland scene a while back I remember, Cali

Yes, ammy I did - and the bluebell wood is another perfect example of Mother Nature flouting that stupid rule!

I think re blue and green - Mother Nature never clashes! I have very little clothing in green, except for bottle green, which does go well with blue. I do have a fair amount in chocolate (both light and dark) Some years back it was evidently very risky for men to wear pink shirts or any pastel colours .... In fact I sometimes feel sorry for men being stuck with black, charcoal grey and navy.
(Your tie sounds nice, what colour shirt do you wear it with?)
