A football question for a Sunday evening: Why at corners do some goalkeepers raise both arms in the air as the kick is about to be taken?? Tom Heaton was doing this today.

My take is they're trying to attract the attention of the officials so they can get extra protection from the ref when they trip over a straw and a hen kicks them!

Isn't that one arm aiming near post,two far post ? although some teams might use reverse psychology or different meanings to confuse the defenders

To give a target for the corner-taker?? Actually there might just be something in that...

Or is it dropping the arms for a save quicker than raising them to a reachable cross? And if your hands are high they're less likely to get trapped by your sides in a goalmouth melee.

Sainst due for an unlucky night I guess, and we got it. Still , the group is wide open, which should make for some exciting games in the return fixtures, and Saints have it in their own hands still, so all is not lost.

Good news: I have my ticket for the home game against Inter.
Bad news, hey have arranged the office Xmas dinner for the night of the final group game.
I have lodged a protest, obviously.
( with work, not UEFA).

Serious question: can anybody explain how we are third in the group, when we have the same results as the second place team, same points, better goal difference, and drew with them ?
