Moyes needs to be allowed to get on with his job over the next six years. You don't throw your 6-year plan out of the window just because you experience unforeseen problems at the beginning (even if those problems are severe).

I don't know - should Jayne be allowed in, at the top, at the end of the season when the rest us have turbulent ups and downs since August. Should the followers of Hereford, Wrexham and Chelmsford be consulted?

Now that Moyes has been sacked, it can be said that it was the wrong decision, without the fear of the statement being falsified

I agree - he is a foremost a coach and he should have been left to get on with that and not had all the other media baggage to deal with - also an institution like Man U should have had a stronger chief exec and day to day business management. He has been sacked for financial not footballing reasons. I guess there are many clubs in the Prem and below who would settle for Man U's 'crisis'.

Gill, the CEO, going at the same time as the man with the hair dryer was not helpful ...

Liverpool have a tremendously excited fan base in the middle kingdom ... and comments above on their excellent performances and attacking style are heartily endorsed by this jazbo but they are still Liverpool [and, like Wales in RFU] the enemy in red eh

the fat lady has not yet sung so the table lies .... it aint over till it's over &c

i do hope Jose gets it better tonight; he has been quite atrocious these last few weeks ...

Blanket Moyes coverage wherever you turn. This statistic struck me:

First 31 games ¡n charge at Old Trafford
                David Moyes
                18 wins
                6 draws
                7 losses

                Alex Ferguson
                12 wins
                10 draws
                9 losses

But the decisive factor was the loss of European football. I have just heard that that there was a clause in his contract relating to non-qualification for Champions' League.

Given the reluctance of the Glaziers to spend any of their substantial income from ownership of ManU on new players for Moyes, I can't help but feel that he was almost set up to fail but by whom I'm not certain.

Ferguson should have persuaded them to be more realistic about what was achievable in Moyes' first year, particularly given that Moyes' style is very different from Ferguson's. The Champions League clause may have been aspirational but surely it wasn't a necessity in his first year. Someone needs to take the Glaziers to one side and have a word -perhaps a touch of the hair-dryer?

I know little about football (though I did see Manchester United play Stoke City back in the early 1970s with Best, Charlton, Law, Stiles etc) and never watch it these days but who on earth would want to be a football manager? Dealing with huge pressure, half-mad owners, angry fans and the seeming lack of employment law make it a poisoned chalice no matter what team is being managed.

The money can be quite good - perhaps a £10 million pay-off to sweeten Moyes' discomfort is not a bad consolation (for 10 months' work with very poor results).

Being a Stockport supporter I've got the turbulent ups and downs T shirt, however I'll put it to the committee Cloughie.
The prospect of two chances of getting the Premiership trophy in the forum cabinet might sway them.
In fact, with Jayne's team on board, more chance of bagging the top three divisional championship pots.
