Would never have dreamt of supporting a team other than my home town, (or if i had some other strong connection , such as Supporting your father's team for instance, not an option for me as mine is p******th) !)

That's how it USED to be! Where I grew up it was mostly Chelsea with some QPR and Fulham, the exception being some Railway (LMS) workers who traditionally supported Manchester Utd and could use their Rail passes to go to a few home games.

My dad was a man city fan,but as he was born within spitting distance of maine road I forgave him,
Anyway I was always told as a kid to keep away from the main road

Yes some oldish railway workers supported the team their grandfathers and great grandfathers had which tended to be Man Utd. as it had railway connections plus many drivers were from there originally. A few were based at Willesden Junction as late as the 1980s. The kids were mainly Chelsea fans.

A brave man, such a shame he had to give up playing football at the same time. It seems to be so difficult for sportsmen to 'come out' as gay while still playing. It never did Martina Navratilova or Amelie Mauresmo any harm that I've heard about.
