            I hear Rooney's been charged with taking a performance enhancing rug.

                That's because it's England.

                    Ludicrous. I only saw the penalties as my day hasn't been structured.

                    Spain's performance against opponents in Euro 2012 -

                    Italy - no more than ok; Ireland - brilliant but easy; Croatia - lacklustre; France - comfortable-ish and yet unconvincing;
                    Portugal - nor more than ok for 90 minutes.

                      It was a lovely evening and I was playing tennis till nine o'clock, so I only saw the second half + extra time which was less than compelling viewing. The early group matches often seem to be more entertaining than the final rounds.

                            According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

                                I've just been reading Alan Shearer's comments on the BBC Sport website. Whether you like his views or not, I suspect he's right when he says that we've no chance of winning the next World Cup, and are indeed 'a million miles' from winning an international competition any time soon.
