I do agree - teams get taken over, huge salaries ensue, a very vulnerable situation. Look at Glasgow Rangers, what a mess (and Leeds United)
I think that Leeds, along with the series of former Premiership clubs who have found themselves in the 3rd tier* were due to overstepping financially and then in freefall without a parachute (Coventry the latest victims, Portmouth being a more complex case).
*Bradford City 4th, Luton 5th!
Sent to me by a Man Utd supporter: Apologies to Chelsea and Leeds fans!
The team in white celebrated wildly. Reduced to 10 men when a central defender was sent off in their semi-final second leg on 24 April at the Camp Nou, they'd held on for an improbable 3-2 aggregate victory over Barcelona to reach the European Cup Final.
Earlier in the season they'd looked in disarray. An upstart young manager who was supposed to oversee the rejuvenation of the squad had been ousted after alienating a core of senior players, but a safe pair of hands everybody assumed was a short-term appointment had arrived, soothed egos and reawakened some of the old fire.
The league was beyond them, but doggedly they'd scrapped their way through to within one game of the prize that had eluded them through all their recent years of success. In that final, a boost for a country facing a double-dip recession, they were to face Bayern Munich...
But, undone by some scandalous refereeing, they lost 2-0 and were never the same again. They pottered around in mid-table for the rest of the decade until, with their big-money striker now in the manager’s seat, they were relegated seven years after their European Cup Final – and two more former players, including their fiery captain who’d played for his country in the World Cup, couldn’t get them back up.
Uncanny associations there, Lat1! I also think a 2-0 win for Bayern is quite a plausible outcome next month. But Chelsea could never be undone by scandalous refereeing - that only happens to teams they play against
that Leeds thing is weird.
Any road up, its an especially early start for me tomorrow, so good luck to all the board teams(except John Wrights lot, sorry John but good luck next season), and if you are off to a game, have a good afternoon out and hope the weather holds up.
Oh, and does anybody else think that Mendelssohn's "March of the War Priests ", really loud, would be a good tune for teams to come out to?
maybe that's just me , then.
And what exactly IS a war priest? can't say I have met one, though a couple of my old head beaks, men of the cloth, seemed to fit the bill !!They could certainly wield a cane proficiently .
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Great day for you two Cloughie and Teamsaint, really pleased for you.
Anyway sorry, but you asked for this.
Despite recent slips Adkins happy band,
Have at last made it to the promised land,
The Owls they deserve all the accolades,
With one game to go they’re above the Blades,
In the conference play offs all the talk,
On here is about just Wrexham and York,
Newcastle still aiming for the top four,
The foxes and Cov their season’s been poor,
Particks good forms not enough to go up,
Chelsea will surely finish with a cup.

Perhaps this time next year, you will be looking for rhymes for "County, Conference winners "!!
ps , for the first time ever today, I was in corporate hospitality. I am, as a result, now officially one of those people who is late back into their seat, because they are polishing off the danish pastries . nice way to do it, though !! (bit of a culture shock after the terrace at Posh last week ).
