I agree that after Hillsborough and for many years his conduct was superb; it's a pity in this instance and on other occasions this season he's come across as a bit of a prat.
John, I followed that link you gave us, but I couldn't get my credit card details accepted - then access was denied!

Yes but I'm referring to his current attitudes. Suarez and other issues, it's easy for you to take his side sitting in your armchair. My extended family are heavily into football, playing and coaching from men to boys, so the right choices have to be made during dressing room chit chat and on the field.

          Woooaah!!!

          We're killing Swansea 2-0!

All we need to do is beat Sunderland 17-0 at their place and we're champions again!

Proof that you can't buy a premiership title!

          Hard luck City!

Thank goodness, back to proper Messageboard footy...........ludicrous optimism, and general chumminess. A little oasis in a mad desert of a world.

(If united can knock off another 8 goals, beefy, they would only have to win by 7 or so at Sunderland !)

Having spent the weekend in a hotel at Worsley, Salford, I was somewhat surprised to bump into the entire West Brom team, walking into the same hotel. Almost as soon as I thought "the new England manager must be here", he passed me, looking extremely cheerful and relaxed. Soon afterwards, he was being mobbed for autographs. He dealt with this is a most friendly and courteous manner.

Oh, Kenny has heard that countless times before when he played for Celtic, a club with significant Irish and Scottish republican support .

Liverpool and Celtic fans have been copying each other and singing the same songs for half a century now, but this is one loutish practice football in England can well do without, imo.

Sadly, as all football clubs well know, it is well-nigh impossible to stop this sort of ill-mannered, disrespectful behaviour by some (mostly drunken) fans.

I want to respond to Scotty's post in detail .....but better kept for a more political thread , I think .

Suffice to say, I have noticed at a couple of big games that really quite large numbers of fans don't sing the National Anthem. Perhaps the words are not to everyone's taste .
(that is not to defend booing, or disrepectifying!! ).

Oh don't worry - I boo the National Anthem too! Every bloody time I hear that dreadful, self-serving dirge.

Oh, er, vive la republique, or something.

Roy Hodgson seems a nice chap, seems to have had something to do with Liverpool once...

Marina Hyde in The Guardian on the appointment of Roy Hodgson:
"It says that the Wembley Blazers have finally realised the utter absurdity of offering the likes of Pep Guardiola "the chance" to manage England. Above all, it is a decision that goes gently into the good night of managed decline."

Not sure on this , but I think it may be true that the tenor line is spectacularly dull..........(and as for the "long to reign over us" bit.......) )

The lyrics man, it's all in the lyrics. for example.....

                          From France and Pretender
                          Great Britain defend her,
                          Foes let them fall;
                          From foreign slavery,
                          Priests and their knavery,
                          And Popish Reverie,
                          God save us all.

Why can't people write great lyrics like that any more?

                          I blame texting.
