Can't believe what Tim Sherwood is saying on MOTD2.

He's a disgrace to the game.

He has the perfect pedigree for being a disgrace to the game.

Great round up ER, many thanks.

The top of the PL is brilliant this year. Bad luck on Alison, but I thought Arsenal deserved it just about. Absolute sickener so late on though, for the Foxes.

Bristol Rovers need to have a good talk with themselves.

And the Owls are flying. Another fine result.

Asked if he was the manager of the player, would he ask him to go down in that situation, he says yes. Disgraceful.

And that is from a Premiership manager. Well, ex-manager.

              The man's a disgrace.

You shouldn't be - you can't win 'em all and going down by the odd goal at the Emirates is no disgrace - last season that result would have been the norm!

Not good but probably an attitude that's more common than we would like to think.

I think this needs some context. The Arsenal player surely had already made illegal contact with Vardy's foot and the 'run into his leg' was making quite sure that the ref gave the just-about-merited pen. I don't think Sherwood was going so far as to excuse, or require, pure diving.
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

Yes, I think that sums it up, but if he could have chosen to stay on his feet, but went over on purpose, it is simulation, ie diving, pure or otherwise.

Contact is not illegal - and he didn't make contact anyway.

and the 'run into his leg' was making quite sure that the ref gave the just-about-merited pen.
By cheating (and wtf is 'just about merited'?)

He wasn't excusing anything, he was saying that the forward was ENTITLED to run into his leg and said as a manager he would expect his players to do just that.

Have you actually played any football?

The Buddies are back to looking over their shoulders...no three three-pointers in a row...

I said 'illegal contact' and that's what I meant. Not a big foul nor absolutely obvious, but a foul nonetheless. IMO.

'Just about merited'. Referees have to make judgment calls where minute differences are crucial. There are clear fouls and less clear ones. This was close to the dividing line but to me, with the benefit of slo-mo, a foul.

Have I played any football? Yes, quite a lot, albeit at pretty undistinguished level. I feel rather tempted to ask the same Q of you!

LeMartinPecheur is spot on I feel.

Pleased to see Beefy's fair play tendencies though!

There is no contact other than that which Vardy causes by deliberately trundling into the defender. Cheating.

Now look at 12 seconds into the vid and you will see Vardy simulating by wilfully NOT putting his right foot down on the ground, but bringing it back up in the air. Cheating. And look how unnatural his leg movement is when he gets the contact with the defender that he's looking for.

I only asked you if you have played any football because for people who haven't played the game, the unnaturalness of some of the movement of these simulated acts might not be obvious.

Yes, I played lots of football (the standard is not very important in this context, but to use your terminology I would describe mine as distinguished).

I'm with you about the difficult job of the ref - as Jayne Lee Wilson perfectly put it on here last year, 'it's a battle of wits between referred and forwards'.
