A glance at my paper this morning shows Palace in fourth and they could easily have got something against the Arse last week. We are used to being in the shaded section of the table but usually at the other end. Eagles fans won't be counting chickens.

we set up very defensively today Alison, which is fair enough. You simply can't concede two per game and survive in the PL.
Watford missed one sitter, but as you say, a clean sheet is a good step forward.
With the squad we have we ought to be fine, but there is much work to do.

"A 0-0 draw with almost no defending in it"... said Barney Ronay. Hang on Barney, it wasn't that exciting. "Interesting" yes - as in Steve "Interesting" Davis...absorbing as in... kleenex. Much rain. God job the pitch was absorbing!

So: Benteke/Coutinho partnering well, Firmino still running in; Gomez and Clyne a distinct improvement over the bizarre interchangeable fullback personnel of last year... oh and, the player formerly known as Dejan Lovren now more closely resembles... the Real Dejan Lovren.

We had the first half, they had the second (Brian); Cech miraculous, but to say Benteke "should have scored" is more of a joke than a judgement; Ramsey's well-made-and-taken goal was wrongly disallowed - which latter I just can't bring myself to be sad about.
