The rules of association football is mankind's greatest invention.
I don't know whether to or

In my yoof, I was happiest running or swimming, both of which activities involved starting at A and ending up at B with few complications in the middle. I never cracked the rules (or should I say laws?) of rugby, hockey or cricket. As for football , I never crossed its path, nor it mine. If any other activity caused such public disorder or hooliganish behaviour it would be banned by law. So how does football get away with it?

The disorder and hooliganism is nothing compared to the bringing together that football creates.

Rugby is for thugs who want to be brutal but dont want to follow rules and do it in a ring. Cricket is like watching paint dry. Hockey is way too violent and should be banned (I was mug enough to play in a game of hockey once, they're animals!). Swimming is ok in the sea, on holiday and I gave up running when I moved past 14 stone!!!
      Hurrah for football!

Absolutely ... and the 'beautiful game' when played at its best is one of humanity's great universal art forms.

I place it second only to the majestic symphonies of Anton Bruckner and, even then, it's a close-run thing ...

What is it that you don't get about football? This is as incongruous as a Can/Laibach/Rammstein fan supporting a fishy...... No we won't go there.

Football may have a lot of issues, but hooliganism really isn't one of them any longer, and hasn't been for a long time.
Black Friday is a lot more dangerous.

There is definitely an anti-football elitism which exists amongst some poorly-advised members. They seem to consider this popular art form is quite beneath them.

One imagines some of them might actually vote .. Conservative ...

Maybe a statement of the obvious but an exquisite and essential feature of the game, is the goal. The very word is pregnant with connotations of target, purpose and achievement. In most games, goals are relatively infrequent (especially at Selhurst Park) - compared to, say, scores at basketball - so each one has the potential to become a unique and noteworthy achievement, often to be remembered and cherished, by both scorer and spectators.

Goodness, what HAS been going on here? Here on the "friendliest thread on the forum" (copyright team saint)?
I trust the more ignorant hooligans above have spent a night cooling off in the cells...

Anyway! What a weekend to look forward to!
Chelsea v Man Utd for me tonight, hoping for a suitably thunderous encounter. Absent support from here to Arsenal, really hope they make the final, you can all guess why, but trad football superstition forbids me to say why! (See 1500 hrs Sunday BT 1...)

Some Euro marvels in the week - Liverpool fans ruefully admiring those Suarez wonder-goals, the way his whole body was shaped for the second to hit the top corner... can't wait for the 2nd legs, especially Madrid-Madrid. I do love this time of year!

(David Matthews 8th? Patience, now... Sky Sports is SUCH a vulgar distraction, darlings, isn't it?)
