What a game that was! Up there with the best. The first match in the World Cup to go to penalties ... and for a while it looked like the Germans might lose. If only ...

Nigeria-France cracked off at terrific pace, very evenly-matched, but The Eagles didn't create much, and visibly wilted after about 70 minutes as France sent in wave after wave...

What a difference it makes to play the Coupe Mondiale in a soccer-mad country though, scarcely a game without atmosphere, excitement and incident! And what a couple of games next Friday!
Just a point about corners - they've been largely predictable crosses (not many good near-post efforts), and usually well-defended, haven't they? I'm surprised there aren't more short ones being tried, pass-and-run-at, or pass-and-low-shot/into goalmouth, etc... (of course, our absent friend Mr. Suarez tried to score twice from corners in the same match.. but now .)
I'm sure someone tried this in during the tournament, can't remember which game.

I think the Swisshave been playing for penalties since kick off,but now look the more likely team to score.

Well, I thought, anyone who sat through Arge-Suisse is hereby the proud recipient of a World Cup Long&Dreary Service Award.....but eh - what?!. A cartoon strip for the last five minutes?! ROFL indeed. Anyway ref., what's the point of a 10-yard spray if.. you don't actually insist that the wall is behind it... I guess La Suisse were just too drained to complain...

Think I need some air... back for Belgium-USA 2nd half. 1st half'll probably be a cracker now ...

Soccer just lost out to football in the end, but another fine match.

Sorry to see Team USA lose to Belgium. For me this was a tough one because of having cousins in Belgium. That being said, the HH and I cheered for the guys in the white jerseys. Howard is my hero. Now I'm keeping fingers crossed that Belgium will do well in the next round. Never a dull moment with the World Cup.

Actually, some of the Belgian cousins are visiting New York and Newport this week. They watched the US v Belgium match in New York at my sister's house. My cousin Thomas said that everyone in Brussels is going crazy with excitement.
