(Though chile were lucky on the penalty shout though).

Like an old fashioned cup tie this one. Brazil's poor defending could spell trouble......
Terrific first half - I thought Webb did OK - there's so much happening.

Might have to change that one...looked like a perfectly bad goal to me!

Hulk's disallowed goal? Any views or should I go to Specsavers?

Healthy slice of fortune there for the homeboys...I posted somewhere earlier that a player having to score to keep his team in the shootout has only a 43% chance of successful completion...I felt for that last Chilean taker.

I thought Howard Webb did well, the liner disallowed the goal tbf.
The Chileans were worried before the game that he would favour the home nation

From this angle looks like Hulk controls the ball with his arm.

Colombia v Uruguay - one of the most ill-tempered games so far?

thought the officials just about got it right on the handball.Tough call.

Brazil have got a lot of work to do to win this world cup. Every chance they will come unstuck.

felt sorry for the lad who hit the post in the shoot out, bit unlucky on what was almost an excellent penalty.

That Rodriguez is pretty damn good. Great first goal.

The picture quality is so poor that it's difficult to see the actual fouls.
I remember the Battle of Montevideo too.

David Coleman on top form is what I remember.

Costa Rica v Greece...not many would have predicted that match-up. Playing for the right to play the Dutch or the Mexicans - really like the look of that one this afternoon. A battle of the managers - Mexican manager, Miguel Herrera, looks like he's going to explode out of his suit whereas Van Gaal looks like his hair is going to fly off - who will prevail?

Terrific game, Mexico-Holland! Like a long, slow crescendo... After 86 minutes I said, y'know, I still really fancy Holland to get one...at 88', as the ball sat up for Schneijder I thought, well go on then... WOW! Poor old Mexico yet again. Wonder if they go in for English-style soulsearching every 4 years...

And at 38 degrees we had the first mid-half drinks breaks, and Holland had to visually hold back - literally keep their cool - in the first half... but if it had gone to 2-0?

Germany-Algeria looks intriguing tomorrow... will Algeria be thinking about 1982?

                              Yep Jayne,super game.
Glen Hoddle made me chuckle, dismissing the need for drinks breaks "I played in hotter world cups than this"

I'm wondering whether the Brazilian TV broadcaat is in HD. Neither the BBC nor ITV HD channels appear to be any better than their standard counterparts. A pity, because the extra detail is a real asset to football broadcasts.
